InterContinental Berlin under new management: Sebastian Germershausen comes full circle

Berlin, January 24, 2023 – The luxury hotel, currently undergoing extensive modernization, is now under new leadership: With Sebastian Germershausen, the InterContinental Berlin in the central district of Tiergarten is ready for the future. The 46-year-old new General Manager is already very familiar with the traditional hotel.

Germershausen began his career here in 2006 as Deputy Front Office Manager and now returns as an experienced leader after international postings. In 2012, he served as Residential Service Lead for IHG ® Hotels & Resorts at the Olympic Games in London, leading one of the accommodations for the athletes. A year later, he moved to the InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto in Australia, where he worked as Director of Rooms and ultimately as Hotel Manager. Back in Germany, Germershausen, born in Hannover, served as Hotel Manager at the InterContinental Berlin for three years from 2015, before taking up his first position as General Manager at the Crowne Plaza Berlin – Potsdamer Platz in February 2018.

In order to develop consistently, Germershausen has taken advantage of training and development programs in recent years with the support of IHG Hotels & Resorts. IHG Hotels & Resorts are committed to promoting the new generation of hotel professionals worldwide through first-class programs, practical training, and modern offerings.

His new position at the InterContinental Berlin means a lot to Sebastian Germershausen personally: “It feels like I’m coming home,” explains the General Manager, “except that I have a lot of fresh ideas lined up. I’m here now to look ahead together with our outstanding team and develop the hotel further for international events, but also for the local market.”

The renovation and redesign of the 558 guest rooms and public areas at the InterContinental Berlin are taking place during ongoing hotel operations and are expected to be completed in the spring of 2023. Sebastian Germershausen looks forward to continuing the hotel’s glorious history in its 65th year and shaping the new era.
