Experience the future at InterContinental Berlin: Modernization with style and a 64 million investment
Berlin, January 23, 2023 – The InterContinental Berlin is not just a hotel with almost 65 years of tradition, but after extensive modernization, it is also a luxury hotel of the future. With an investment of almost 61 million from IHG ® Hotels & Resorts and Union Investment, the InterContinental Berlin, which is considered one of the highest-grossing hotels in Germany, has been renovated and redesigned since May 2019 while still in operation. While work on the west wing will continue until spring 2023, the rest of the approximately 70,000 m² hotel, under the direction of the new General Manager Sebastian Germershausen, is already shining in its new glory.
Germershausen, who began his career as deputy front office manager precisely at InterContinental Berlin in 2006, takes over the final phase of the modernization as an experienced leader after international assignments to lead the iconic Berlin hotel into a new era.
The rooms in the south and east wings of the hotel already serve as showcases of the modern design concept, as does the new Club InterContinental Lounge. With this, the renovation of most of the guest rooms is complete, and the remaining rooms in the west wing will also be available in the new look by spring 2023. In the Marlene Bar and in the associated restaurant, guests enjoy the special flair after the redesign. The event areas are not only visually, but also technologically state of the art. The refreshing work in the ballroom, one of the largest halls in the capital, and the lobby has also been successfully completed. The gourmet restaurant Hugos, which has held a Michelin star since 1999, impresses with new interior details, but above all, with creative cuisine.
Sebastian Germershausen, General Manager of InterContinental Berlin, says: “The InterContinental Berlin is a passion project for me, and I am very happy to have such an excellent team by my side. With the modernization, we are preserving the soul and magic of the hotel but bringing it up to date in terms of design, user-friendliness, and sustainability.” This ensures that the InterContinental Berlin will remain an iconic hotel in Berlin in the future.
