Hugos at InterContinental Berlin Retains Its Michelin Star During a Year of Generational Change
Under the culinary leadership of Johannes Gehrich, the Berlin fine dining restaurant continues its Michelin-starred legacy, uninterrupted since 1999.
Berlin, 24 June 2026 – Hugos at InterContinental Berlin has once again been awarded one Michelin Star in the MICHELIN Guide Germany 2026. The accolade marks a significant milestone for the renowned Berlin fine dining restaurant: following the transition of the kitchen leadership from Eberhard Lange to Johannes Gehrich, Hugos has reaffirmed both its culinary consistency and its position as one of Berlin’s leading gastronomic destinations.
Hugos has held a Michelin Star continuously since 1999. Retaining the distinction during a year of generational change highlights the restaurant’s enduring excellence while reflecting the new culinary team’s commitment to preserving its established identity and interpreting it with a contemporary perspective.
Johannes Gehrich has been part of the Hugos team since 2016 and, as Sous Chef from 2022 onwards, played a key role in shaping the restaurant’s culinary direction. At the end of 2025, he was appointed Head Chef. Today, he leads a young international kitchen team dedicated to precision craftsmanship, modern haute cuisine, and an approachable interpretation of fine dining.
“Retaining our Michelin Star is a tremendous honour—especially this year,” says Johannes Gehrich, Head Chef of Hugos. “A Michelin Star is never the achievement of one individual; it is always the result of an outstanding team effort. We are incredibly grateful that the work of the past months has been recognised, and we see this award as both a confirmation of our direction and a motivation to continue pursuing our vision with passion and consistency.”
For InterContinental Berlin, the renewed Michelin recognition is equally significant. For decades, Hugos has been one of the hotel’s culinary flagships, combining exceptional fine dining with a truly unique setting. Located on the 14th floor, the restaurant offers panoramic views across Berlin, creating an experience where cuisine, service, wine pairing, and atmosphere come together seamlessly.
“Hugos is an integral part of our hotel’s identity,” says Sebastian Germershausen, General Manager of InterContinental Berlin. “Retaining the Michelin Star during a leadership transition demonstrates the remarkable strength of the restaurant’s foundation. We would like to thank Johannes Gehrich and the entire team for carrying this legacy forward with professionalism, dedication, and genuine passion.”
With this latest distinction, Hugos further strengthens its position within Berlin’s highly competitive fine dining scene. The MICHELIN Guide Germany 2026 recognises 19 Michelin-starred restaurants in Berlin. Hugos’ continued success represents a level of consistency that is particularly noteworthy in the world of haute cuisine.
Hugos is open Wednesday through Saturday from 6:30 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling +49 (0)30 2602 1263 or by emailing hugos@ihg.com.
