Siegessäule

In the heart of Tiergarten Park, the Siegessäule (Victory Column) with its golden statue is one of the city’s must-see sights – complete with panoramic views! If you stroll down each street leading towards the victory column, you reach a major intersection – a vast roundabout known as the Großer Stern. And right at the heart of the roundabout, you can find the Victory Column. The Victory Column was initially built in 1873 to celebrate Prussia’s victories in the wars against Denmark, Austria, and France. It originally stood on Königsplatz square and was later moved to its present location under Hitler’s plans for Berlin. The column survived World War II and was later restored.

Berlin Sights

Within a short 15-minute drive, you will reach the iconic Berlin sights such as Berlin TV Tower, Alexanderplatz, Rotes Rathaus, Museums Island, and the Gendarmenmarkt. The Berlin TV Tower has thanks to its central location, a unique 360-degree panoramic view of Berlin’s skyline. The Gendarmenmarkt with its surrounding historic buildings continues to offer great attractions such as concerts at the Konzerthaus, historical exhibits at the Deutscher Dom, and panoramic views from the viewing platform of the Französischer Dom. Berlin’s City Hall, also known as the Rotes Rathaus, is a famous Neo-Renaissance building located at Alexanderplatz in Mitte. It was severely damaged during World War II but was reconstructed soon after. Following the city’s division, it served as the town hall for East Berlin. Since 1991, it has been the seat of the United City’s government and the Mayor of Berlin’s offices.

Berlin Sights

A few minutes longer you will reach the iconic East Side Gallery, which is the longest open-air gallery in the world. An artists’ initiative, East Side Gallery e.V., was founded in 1996 to preserve and restore the works. By 2009, the entire gallery was restored with the participation of 87 artists and the restoration of 100 paintings. In 2018, the responsibility for preserving the monument was transferred to the Stiftung Berliner Mauer (SBM) by the State of Berlin.
